PACKET MONITORING WITHOUT A TNC OR MODEM
USING FREEWARE AND A UA741 OP-AMP (COMPUTER POWERED)
For those of us not yet ready to invest in a TNC, Baycom, or PMP modem, there
is a way to monitor packet using only the VHF receiver and a computer with
a UA741 op-amp at the mouse port. It's called PKTMON12. The program is avail-
able from ftp.funet.fi, listed as PKTMON12.LZH. I'll convert it to a ZIP and
upload it to DRIG BBS this weekend.
This program works great and is FREE. The op-amp interface circuit is shown
in the documentation of JVFAX6.0, HFFax, and HamCom30. Just connect the
741 input to the receiver speaker leads and start copying packet (1200 Baud.)
The system also will decode HF packet although I haven't tried it yet.

Subject: Software to drive a radio data modem?
To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu
Hello friends,
I've got a Satelline-1AS Radio Data Modem here on my desk.
This is not a Hayes compatible thing. It does half-duplex
communications. By switching DTR on on the RS232-port, the
Radio Modem is powered on. (signalled via DSR). When CD is
switched on, there is something to receive. To send something
switch on RTS and wait for CTS. This can take a while because
it's possible that the radio channel isn't free yet.
This Radio Modem is from a Finnish company and is also known
by the name MOBIDEM. Does anyone has a piece of software to test
this thing out, before the application for this thing is written?
Is there a FAQ for this group? My appologies if my question is
inappropiate for this group.
Greetings,
Harrie.
